Trumpeter, composer, and educator Marquis Hill heads an All-star ensemble of native and veteran Chicago jazz scene participants, celebrating and paying great homage to the city’s most prolific [and/or most profound] jazz composers.
The music of Fred Anderson, Von Freeman, Lester Bowie, Malachi Thompson, Ernest Dawkins , Nichole Mitchell, and Jeff Parker are lovingly investigated by this crack team of uber-responsive Personalities - each whose musical veins flow in rich parallel to those of these generous performer-composers.
The band features Marquis Hill on Trumpet, Greg Ward on Alto Sax, Justin Dillard on Piano and percussion, the great Isaiah Spencer on Drums, and Junius Paul on Bass. Anyone slightly familiar with this ‘cast’ will anticipate the constructive empathy they manifest - phrase by phrase. Through the Chicago experience and that of its ensemble-centric composing, this band compellingly sings and swings each vision.
In the spoken word department, K-Love is a very special Special Guest.
